Hello!
I've had a great day! Nandi just left Vichy half an hour ago, after staying the night in Escurolles. It was great seeing her and quite bizarre too... I never thought we'd just meet up in France one day.
She arrived yesterday at midday and got settled in at Escurolles. Her French is fantastic! I dont think I will be anywhere near as good after just 3 months! Being the lovely bossy cousin she is, she made me start writing down all the new words and phrases I learn. I suppose it will be useful :)
We spent yesterday afternoon roaming the streets of escurolles, despite the fact that it was -4°c, and discovered some very cute things, including a gorgeous church. It had a Hunchback of Notredame bell and everything! This morning we walked through the snow (yes, the snow!!!) to get breakfast at the local boulangerie, and gorged ourselves on a slightly burnt almond croissant and a very yummy pain chocolat. We were soaked and freezing by the time we got back, but it was worth it... plus, we need the excercise.
I just got to school to find that I my history teacher is away... meaning I dont have class. It is so annoying! I hate having to wait around for hours, when I could be learning something or doing something fun. Ah well, cultural differences.
Until next time,
Jessica

School in France
Bonjour!
Today was my first day at school in france and it went surprisingly well. Classes are very casual; you basically go in and out as you please and there can be 3 hour breaks between each class. I have been here since 8.00 this morning but have only had science and french literature! tomorrow there is no school at all! it is great.
I have made some friends. There is another exchange student, from mexico, who is very nice, and her friends are all wonderful. Haha and they tell me that I look like scarlett johannson, that i have a great dress sense, and that i am beautiful. I have never been more complimented in my entire life!
The cafeteria was a new experience. French kids eat so much!! I had a salad and half a crepe, while they piled their plates up with 3 courses and bread and cheese! They kept asking me why I wasnt eating, as if a serve as small as mine was just bizarre. Eventually I explained to them that "En Australie nous mangeons un peu" which means in Australia we eat a little at lunch.
Anyways, goodbye and I hope you enjoyed your Australia Day!
Love Jess
PS. It started snowing today!!! Everyone was moaning about it but I think its fantastic :) There were snowflakes in my hair. If it keeps snowing, we dont have to go to school, so fingers crossed.

Officially in France
I am on the computer at school. It is very difficult to type because all the letters are in the wrong place and you have to press shift to get a full stop :)
France is beautiful though I must say those 2 years of French lessons havent done me much good. haha my vocabulary consists of oui, non, and merci. Its all very bizzare not talking constantly and not understandiong a word people say.
My host family are brilliant. They are both so nice and they even try speaking english now and then, even though they claim it is a very difficult language to speak.
Escurolles is the cutest place on the planet. It is all rustic with vine covered houses and cobble stone streets. There isnt much there, just a cafe/bar, a small grocery store and a post office. There is a primary school though. I saw all the gorgeous little kids going there this morning.French children are extra cute because they are always rugged up in huge hooded jackets that go down to their knees.
Koly took me to Vichy this morning and I absolutely loved it! It is so beautiful, with its grand terraced apartment buildings, a very large and very neat park, and plenty of boutiques, patisseries, and cafes. You'll be glad to know that I have taken a lovely step to my future francais land obesity by trying a lovely raspberry tart at one of the lavish patisseries. It was so good. Australia really needs to work on their pastry making.
I'm starting school tomorrow. We just came in today to get my timetable. I'm studying french, english, spanish, maths, art, gym, science, and music, though i dont know how i'm going to find my classes... this place is massive!! And everyone is so small. Seriously, I am atleast a head taller than most of them, even the adults and the men! I feel gigantic.
Anyways, I'd better go.
Tata et aurevoir!
Love Jess
PS. The flight was soooooo long and i only slept for 15mins (through a meal unfortunately). I did however watch some top movies (not), including fame and the hannah montanna movie. Wooh!

Wow!
Wow! It is only 3 days until I leave for France! I am so excited!! I've got my bags packed, my room has literally been cleared out of all possessions (so mum can destroy it by turning into a temporary guest room), and I recieved my first call from France this morning. It was a very interesting experience, I can assure you. Cutest accent ever, but difficult to understand.
Actually, this week has been full of interesting/slightly embarrassing experiences. For example, yesturday we took my suitcase to the vet (yes, I said the vet) to weigh it on those big dog scales. I felt like such a weirdo, but was pleased (and very relieved) to find that my suitcase only weighs 17.4kg! I was sure it would be atleast 25, so thank god for that.
Anyway, it's my 16th birthday today, so I'm off to Bangalow for the last time this year. A Good-bye almond croissant awaits me a Choux-Choux patisserie :) Yum.
Tata et aurevoir,
Talk to you in Francais Land,
Jess
